Physical Integration of Chile

In order to comply with the policies of the Supreme Government Government in terms of facilitating local and regional physical integration, the National Department of State Borders and Boundaries, together with other State agencies, contribute to coordinate border integration and facilitation measures which are agreed bilaterally and regionally. The Integration and Border Committees established between our country and Argentina, Bolivia and Peru play a key role, as well as the Mixed Technical Groups (Argentina and Bolivia) in the development of better connections for the border crossing. The objective of these measures is to optimize the movement of people, vehicles and goods across the border.

Bi-Oceanic Corridors

Connectivity with the neighboring countries and the rest of countries from the region is a development factor for Chile, this linkage is made by the current terrestrial connection routes, including port terminals, configuring this way international corridors, known in South America as bioceanic corridors. The idea is to contribute to developing the potential connection routes. Beyond the development of the necessary infrastructure, it also seeks to facilitate international traffic and commercial exchange between countries, uniting territories through efficient connections under an operating and regulatory framework in accordance with that purpose.

The Initiative for the Integration of Regional Infrastructure in South America (IIRSA) is part of the topics addressed in the Presidential Summit held in Brasilia 2000. It considers an Action Plan for the Regional Infrastructure of South America, with the participation of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Surinam, Uruguay, and Venezuela. Said Plan is based on prioritizing and coordinating investment projects of the countries to consolidate a logistics platform that enables connectivity, exchange, and complementary development, addressing the matters that help create the conditions for an effective use of the logistics to be consolidated.
